Motorists and commuters in Makurdi, the state capital of Benue, and other parts of the state have continued to complain about the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, or fuel, which ranges between N360 and N420 per litre.

Despite assurances from the government that measures have been put in place to ensure that the product is dispensed to motorists at the government-approved price, the price of the product in most of the filling stations visited in the state capital has remained high.

According to the findings, most of the major marketers in Makurdi town have few products to sell to desperate motorists and motorcyclists.

However, the majority of filling stations owned by independent marketers have a consistent supply of the product, which they sell far above the government-approved price.

As a result of this development, commercial transportation operators have been forced to maintain extremely high fares for both inter-city and intra-city transportation.

Malachi Gbaa, a commercial motorcycle operator who could not hide his rage and frustration over the situation, stated that the product was selling for such high prices in the state due to a lack of proper monitoring by relevant government agencies.

“The marketers are selling at whatever rate they prefer in Benue because nobody is motoring what they are doing,” he said. Do you know that fuel is sold at a government-approved price in neighboring states? However, in Benue state, fuel costs between N380 and N420 per litre; why?

“Worst of all, major marketers have refused to sell to motorists. Only Independent Marketers have products to sell at all times.
