The Commissioner Of Police Condemns Attack On The Governor

 

CP. Audu Madaki, the Commissioner of Police for Benue State Command, has condemned the weekend attack on Governor Samuel Ortom, calling it uncalled for.

While condemning the unprovoked attack on the Governor, Cp. Audu Madaki praised the officers involved in the gunfight for their bravery and ordered an investigation into the incident.

He went on to say that such lawlessness could not be tolerated in Benue under his watch.

According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Command, DSP Sewuese Anene, on Saturday, March 20th, 2021, at about 12 noon, a call was received from one of the police officers assigned as escort to the Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Samuel Ortom, that while on escort duty with the Governor to His farm located at Abua Village, Gboko road, Makurdi; some armed men numbering about 15 came out from the bush and started shooting sporadically at His Excellency’s entourage.

He went on to say that they were able to repel the attackers and return the Governor unharmed to the Benue Peoples House in Makurdi.

According to the statement, a team of police officers was sent to the scene after receiving the information to avoid further breakdowns in law and order and to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the crime scene.
