As the debate over Tems’ ‘view-blocking’ Oscars outfit for 2023 continues to rage on social media, actor Yul Edochie has praised her for doing Nigeria proud.
Tems, an Oscar nominee, wore a flamboyant Lever Couture hooded gown that swirled around her like a trail of smoke.

While she was named one of the best-dressed stars at the 95th Academy Awards, some others criticized her for obstructing the view of those behind her with her gown.
Yul Edochie, who commented on the trending topic, Tems, compared her to his American counterpart, Will Smith, who was the talk of the internet during last year’s Oscar event.
Last year, around the same time, Will Smith made headlines for slapping Chris Rock, the host of the 2022 Oscars, after the comedian made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Smith later apologized on stage for his actions after receiving an award for his role in King Richard.
However, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Board of Governors voted to bar him from all Academy events, including the Oscars, for ten years as punishment for his slap of presenter Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards telecast.
Yul praised Tems for putting Nigeria on the global map despite the criticisms surrounding her’show-stealing, view-blocking dress,’ and urged her critics to attend the Oscars first before criticizing her outfit.
“Before you criticize @temsbaby for her Oscar dress, go to the Oscars first,” he said. Tems stole the show this year, just like Will Smith’s slap did last year. Congratulations, young lady. We are very proud of you. Nigeria is extremely proud of you.”
