Steve Ezeonu, a 22-year-old Nigerian elected to the US Council

 

Steve Ezeonu, a Nigerian-American, is being celebrated after being elected to a political post in the United States. He won the Grand Prairie City Council election run-off in Texas, USA. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), congratulated Steve on his victory, which she described as “hard-earned but well-deserved.”

In a statement issued by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the commission’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Dabiri-Erewa congratulated Ezeonu. According to the announcement, the young Nigerian-American received 3,903 votes in the June 5 run-off, defeating his nearest challenger Greg Giessner, who received 3,720 votes. Mr. Giessner received 48.8% of the vote in the run-off, while Ezeonu (Democrat) received 51.2 percent.

Mr. Ezeonu’s victory, according to the NiDCOM chairman, demonstrated “hard work and dedication to duty pay.” She stated that Ezeonu’s achievement did not surprise her because his tenacity, determination, and perseverance led to his achievement despite his youth. The NiDCOM boss urged other Nigerians to follow in Ezeonu’s footsteps and strive for success in their endeavors, saying that “hard effort is the key to success.”

By winning, Mr. Ezeonu demonstrated “hard effort and dedication to duty pay,” according to the chairman of the NiDCOM.
