The Independent National Electoral Commission announced the establishment of 56,873 new polling locations on Wednesday.
The total number of polling units in the country now stands at 176,846.
Prof Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of INEC, revealed this in Abuja on Wednesday morning.
INEC also outlawed polling stations in private homes and palaces, as well as hospitals and other non-authorized places.
