Boris Johnson, the former British prime minister, has claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened to kill him with a missile last year for his support for Ukraine.
According to The Mirror on Monday, Johnson revealed this in a three-part BBC documentary over the weekend.
The former British prime minister claimed Putin made the threat during a phone call he described as “extraordinary” after his visit to Kyiv to show support for Ukraine amid growing fears of a Russian invasion.
Johnson claims Putin told him over the phone, “I don’t want to hurt you, but it would only take a minute with a missile.”
He also said he told Putin that the escalation would only increase Western support for Ukraine, implying “more NATO, not less NATO” on Russia’s borders.
“He said, ‘Boris, you say Ukraine will not join NATO anytime soon. When is it going to be?’ ‘Well, it’s not going to join NATO for the foreseeable future,’ I said. “You know that perfectly well,” Johnson said of his conversation with Putin.

“He threatened me at one point and said, ‘Boris, I don’t want to hurt you, but it would only take a minute with a missile,’ or something like that,” Johnson said.
“I think he was just playing along with my attempts to get him to negotiate based on the very relaxed tone that he was taking, the sort of air of detachment that he seemed to have.”
More military aid is being sent to Ukraine, with Germany and the United States promising to send tanks as the war enters its first year.
