Dino Melaye Wins Kogi State PDP Governorship Primary

Dino Melaye, a former Senator who represented Kogi West in the National Assembly, has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the Kogi State Governorship Election on November 11, 2023.

Dino received 313 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Jabiru Usman, who received 127 votes.

Ahmed Makarfi, the chairman of the PDP primary Election Committee, announced the results on Sunday at the conclusion of the indirect primary held in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

Yomi Awoniyi, a former Deputy Governor, received 77 votes, while Musa Wada, the PDP’s governorship candidate in 2019, received 56 votes.

Dino will run in the November 11, 2023 election alongside Usman Ododo, a former Auditor General of Local Government in Kogi State and the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate in the state. Yahaya Bello, the incumbent governor, recently endorsed Ododo.

Melaye recently responded to Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike’s dismissal of his bid to succeed Governor Yahaya Bello.
