BREAKING: Senate Passes A Supplemental Budget, Increasing Buhari’s Budget Proposal By N87BN

The Senate on Wednesday approved the President’s supplementary budget, which was submitted to both chambers of the National Assembly two weeks ago (retd.).

Buhari requested a budget of N895.842,465,917 billion, but the Senate Committee on Appropriations upped it to N982,729,695,343 billion in its report submitted by Chairman Barau Jibrin.

The breakdown showed that N123,332,174,164 is for recurrent (non-debt) expenditure, while N859, 397,521,179 is for capital expenditure contribution to the development fund for the year ending December 31, 2021.

The requested sum would be used to pay the COVID-19 vaccine program as well as health-related expenditures for the treatment of an extra 50,000 patients under the Nigeria Comprehensive AIDS Programme in states, according to Buhari.

He also stated that a portion of the funds would be used to purchase extra equipment not included in this year’s capital expenditure on Defense and Security in order to address the country’s current security challenges.
