As part of his re-election campaign, the governor addressed market men and women at Itoku Kampala market in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
Abiodun, who frowned at the banks’ actions, noted that because new naira notes were not available, commercial banks had to accept the old notes to alleviate the people’s suffering.

He urged the people to remain calm, assuring them that his government was working hard to bring the current situation under control.
Meanwhile, commercial activities were disrupted on Tuesday in Sango-Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State, as angry residents protested the continued scarcity of new naira notes worth N200, N500, and N1000.
Residents who went to banks for withdrawals said they couldn’t get their money. They were said to have become more agitated when commercial banks refused to accept old naira notes as deposits.
Protesters barricaded the Joju junction of the Idiroko-Ota road on Tuesday, causing heavy gridlock.
People lit bonfires to protest the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of causing hardship for the masses.
Police officers have been dispatched to Sango-Ota to protect banks and their employees.
Last week, Abeokuta was rocked by a violent protest in which banks were attacked and one person was shot.
