Election 2023: elections in problem areas, PFN urges INEC

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hold new elections in areas where electoral irregularities such as ballot box snatching occurred.

Lawrence Ekwok, the Chairperson of the PFN Cross River State Chapter, told reporters in Calabar that INEC should repeat the elections in areas where potential voters were prevented from voting.

He also stated that elections should be held in polling units where the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices had been carted away or destroyed by thugs.

“Other areas where elections should be cancelled and repeated should include polling units or states where ballot papers did not contain the logo of some political parties.

“Doing this will help prevent possible protests from those who feel disenfranchised and will also discourage violent activities.

“If this is done, the eventual winner of the election will be confident of having the mandate of the Nigerian people,” Mr Ekwok said.

He charged INEC with doing everything possible to persuade Nigerians that the commission was serious about holding free, fair, and credible elections.

While calling for the results to be uploaded as soon as possible to avoid any suspicion, he urged Cross River residents to vote in the governorship and House of Assembly elections on March 11th.

Mr Ekwok condemned open threats made against voters at polling stations across the country.

The electoral commission, INEC, is still collating presidential election results in wards and local governments across Nigeria.

Nigerians voted on Saturday to choose a new president and members of parliament.

However, voting will continue in some parts of the country today.
