Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has declared the seat of late lawmaker Hon. Adedayo Omolafe, who represented Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency in Ondo State, vacant.

The vacancy, according to Gbajabiamila, emerges as a result of Omolafe’s death on August 16, 2021, which was declared at the plenary on September 14, 2021.

He said that the notification is in accordance with Section 68 (2) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 Constitution, and also for the records.

The House must now notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which will then arrange a by-election to fill the vacancy.
