The appeal of Uche Secondus, the suspended national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, seeking an interim injunction to prevent the PDP from conducting its national convention in Abuja on Saturday and Sunday, October 30 and 31, 2021, has been dismissed by an Appeal Court in Port Harcourt.

The appeal, which was submitted on October 14, 2021, was dismissed by a three-person panel for lack of merit.

A high court in Rivers affirmed Secondus’ suspension from the party in his ward in Ikuru Town, in the state’s Andoni Local Government Area, in a judgment issued on September 10.

During Tuesday’s sessions, Sunday Ameh, the new lawyer for the largest opposition party, told the court that after reviewing the processes, he did not see the necessity to proceed with the application.

The PDP had planned a special convention in Abuja on October 30 and 31 to elect new national Chairman as a method of resolving the internal crisis that had rocked the party’s Secondus-led National Working Committee.

Secondus, on the other hand, is upset with the decision to hold the convention, which would bring an end to his tenure, which was set to expire in December.

The suspended PDP National Chairman later filed an application to stop the party from holding the convention as part of the ongoing litigation over his suspension from the party.

Mr Yomi Akinwonmi has been serving as the PDP National Chairman in an acting capacity since Secondus’ suspension.
