If we don’t get it right, Nigeria’s population will become a liability by 2050 – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned that if things are not done properly today, Nigeria’s population could become a major concern in 2050.

On Sunday, June 27, the former President spoke at a gathering in Ogun state, calling for population management to guarantee that our population does not become a liability.

According to Obasanjo,

“If we keep pushing, by the year 3000, we will be the world’s largest country. What are we going to do now to deal with the situation? “How are we going to deal with that influx of people?” If we don’t start now, we won’t be able to get it properly by 2050. However, if we do what we need to do, population may not be a liability in and of itself.

However, if we do not do what we need to do – which we are currently failing to do – the people will become a liability.

“We need to educate ourselves on population control. Some people object to family planning and the like, but whatever you do, you must manage your population for the good of your country.”
