Mathew Urhoghide, the senator representing Edo South in the Red Chamber, has said that government servants, not politicians, are stealing Nigeria’s riches.
Urhoghide made this remark in a recent interview with Roots TV, which POLITICS NIGERIA was watching. Civil officials (accounting officers), he stated, are responsible for siphoning and embezzling vast sums of public monies.
“Everyone believes that politicians are to blame for anything bad that happens in Nigeria, but you keep telling them that all of the political parties, with membership and everything, make up less than 10% of the population.
“We do not make up the majority of our population, but the riches stolen, the wealth of the public, the wealth of citizens, the wealth in our system is not stolen by politicians, as we have seen. Look at the billions and billions we’re talking about; identify me a politician that has that type of money to steal all at once based on our findings.”
“Chief Executives, Accounting Officers, Accounting Officers, Accounting Officers, Accounting Officers, Accounting Officers, Accounting Officers, Accounting Officers, Accounting Officers, Accounting Officers, Accounting Officers, Accounting Officers We’re not discussing ministers here; we’re talking about permanent secretaries. We believe there is no way money may be misappropriated by the minister without the permanent secretary’s account officer’s knowledge.”
“Nigerians must be aware that the greatest waste of public funds occurs among those in the civil service.”
he explained.
