Hajia Ramat Seriki, the Chairman of the Ilorin East Local Government Area in Kwara, has stated that if no one claims an abandoned newborn baby girl within three months, she will adopt her.
On May 11, 2021, residents of Okeoyi and council workers were said to have discovered the baby at the secretariat’s entrance.
The baby is currently being cared for at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Development’s motherless babies shelter.
Seriki characterized the unidentified mother of the abandoned baby’s behavior as callous and inappropriate in an interview with NAN in Llorin on Saturday, May 15.
She stated that all attempts to locate the baby’s mother were futile, and that the child was delivered to the Motherless Babies Home on NNPC Pipeline Road in Ilorin.
“If no one claims her within the next three months, I am completely prepared to adopt the baby by signing all requisite papers,” she said.
Seriki said that while the baby is at the Motherless Babies Home, she would provide all appropriate things for her upbringing before she can officially adopt her.
The abandoned baby is now at the Ministry of Social Welfare’s Motherless shelter, according to Hafsat lbrahim, the Permanent Secretary.
She stated that any arrangement for her adoption by someone must go through the ministry’s proper channels.
