Fire outbreak has hit a part of Otukpo main market in Benue State, on Wednesday morning, November 25, with many shops burnt down, that destroyed goods worth millions of Naira.
According to eye witnesses, name withheld, The fire started this morning and quickly spread due to the dry weather, as traders strives to put-off the fire before the arrival of men fire Service.
Otukpo Local Government Chairman, Rt. Hon. George Alli, sympathised with the traders and applauds the Otukpo Fire Service for their quick intervention.
Hon Alli, sympathise with the affected traders whose shops were burnt down, goods destroyed, saying, he feels their pains in this trying times.
He is grateful to God that no life was lost.
Going forward we will have to restructure the market to allow fire service truck and other equipments free movement within the market like we are currently doing with the burnt shops we are rebuilding, Hon Alli said further.
To safeguard lives and properties of traders and customers in the market in the event of emergency, Hon Alli said.
We recalled that this is second time this year 2020, Otukpo main market was raised by fire, the first was in March 16, 2020, with 200 shops at the Lagos line sections, destroying goods worth millions of Naira.
Those shops are currently being rebuilt.
